This is the first blog post for the UNM POA. The intent of the blog is to be the primary means of sharing information. With this in mind, here is a recap of what we have do so far since the election:

1. We have the new web site

2. We have POA emails for conducting POA business

3. We have 8 holiday days for the Winter Break no matter your schedule

4. We have assurance there will be no disciplinary language for menial or petty issues under the new Body-Worn Camera (BWC) SOP

5. Additionally, the POA will review the BWC SOP draft before it becomes final

6. Based on the current POA contract, any new firearms SOP will be written with input from the POA, based on the likelihood of the department moving to department only firearms.

Things I am still working on:

1. Change to the SOP regarding Internal Affairs Investigations which would indicate the type of investigation and type of representation needed: Garrity for disciplinary offenses; Miranda for criminal offenses (arrested); Reverse Garrity for criminal offenses (not arrested)

2. Scheduling regular meetings with myself, Ofc. Camacho, Cmdr. Tafoya and Lt. Guevara to discuss and keep track of issues in real time

3. Placing downloadable membership application pdfs on the website

4. Ensuring all board members have editorial access to the website and blog

Last of all, because I want all union business to be transparent within the POA, I want to let everyone know the POA account is at $16,709.

If there are any questions, comments or concerns, please use the POA email and when possible, address the entire POA board. Of course, if the email is of a sensitive nature, you may send it to a single board member.
