Hello everyone,

As we close out 2024 I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

With the new year, we need to work together as a union to make our lives better. I have already had several meetings with our Patrol Lieutenant and Operations Commander, and Chris Camacho has also met with them. These two will be representing UNMPD when it comes to negotiations.

With this in mind, the one comment I have have heard multiple times is. "If you want to get, you have to give." Whenever this comment has been made, it is always followed with a request for us to use the chain of command. The Commander in particular has noted he has observed time and again officers going straight to individuals at the command level without going through their sergeants.

If this is the biggest ask that he has of us, then we need to make sure we are using the chain of command. If you have questions or issues, go through your sergeant first. Do this even if the issue is with your sergeant. If you are not satisfied with the results, then respectfully request/inform the sergeant you will be going to the lieutenant, etc. This is such an easy ask, let's not blow it off. Let's give them what they ask for and see how they reciprocate.

On another note, please use your cell phone cameras and capture images of UNMPD in action. Send them to me so I can post them on the website.

Thanks,

Tim
